Uruguay's Jose Mujica was a political prisoner before becoming President. Mujica is not just a great man -- he represents a model of governance that deeply threatens corporate power and oligarchy.
The world is a better place for having had this exemplary leader and human being in it. Do I think the USA could produce similar leadership to Jose Mujica? Not a chance.
However, I am grateful for the late great James Earl Carter and deeply appreciate Bernie Sanders for all that he continues to do to save our democracy and show people how to use their power given to them by the US Constitution.
The cynicism of the money managers in our country’s political class is truly perverse. We have to get the money out of our politics.
Sanders will never do anything for us. We need people like Kshama Sawant. She’s running for Congress. I urge everyone who wants a caring, compassionate, knowledgeable, leader, with proven results for the working class, to vote for her. She is the best hope for our future. She is running in the state of Washington. Jose Mujica is a hero. What a wonderful human being.
Thank you, Steven, for telling us about Mujica. I did not know about him before. He is a shining example of selfless leadership. Wonderful to hear about him.
Sure would be nice if we could get such a leader now....sigh. I thought Jill Stein was worth a try but voters just seem stuck on the Uniparty, excuse me, the two big parties.
Of course a Jose Mujica can happen here, moreso now than before the presidential election, since now we are in hell and that leaves an opening for an angel. We have wings on the ready. Do you know Marianne Williamson? You figure to like each other. All you need to do is listen to any talking she's doing and it's as unmistakably admirable as listening to you! Here's my playlist of posts that have included her: https://suzannetaylor.substack.com/s/marianne-williamson
Bravo, for a life well lived. A decent and giving human being. It's easy to forget they are out there sometimes, but whenever I read or hear about them it makes me try harder to be a decent and giving human being too. Thank you President Mujica, and thank you Mr. Donziger, for sharing this remarkable story about one remarkable man.

Mujica is the exception that proves the rule.
